"A restaurant where guests feel like family returning home." You can’t just write that on a menu. It’s something you create over fourteen years, with every plate, every conversation, and every time you reopen the kitchen late at night for a guest who comes back.

I picture Francesco playing with his band on the terrace during the pandemic. That’s more than just hospitality. It’s someone making sure the music keeps going, both in the real sense and in spirit.

I’m not from San Carlos, and I’ve never eaten at Delizie. Still, I feel the sadness of it closing and the hope that it might come back. That’s the power of good writing about a place.

I hope Francesco and his family find rest and renewal in Calabria. And I hope we all get to meet more restaurant owners who treat their guests like "Mom" and "Dad."

The market runs, the reopened kitchen, the music on the terrace, calling guests Mom and Dad, that is the part that makes this feel so personal.

Delizie sounds like one of those places that became part of people’s lives, not just their dinner plans.
