With a new year upon us, one cannot help but consider ways to enhance. Whether it is a “New Year’s Resolution” or the beginning of a “new you”, it is hard to avoid the idea of a fresh start. And why not? 2024 provides us with the opportunity for a clean slate. A refresh of all things we hope to usher in - to reboot, improve, and grow.
A component of the new year refresh certainly includes one’s style. Style identity is more about inner belief, your uniqueness and how you carry yourself, than the clothes per se. Yet, one’s unique style speaks to the world about who they are - an expression of how she sees herself and the world around her.
What we wear gives the world a first glimpse of who we intend to be. Intentionality matters, whether we admit it or not.
But when it comes to the practice of style, some of us may have time constraints, others may need a confidence boost now and then; or, some may even consider an image makeover. Sometimes we merely need special occasion styling. As seasons change, we often deliberate on a wardrobe evaluation, Personal Shopping Guidance, Shopping Assistance and perhaps even a Fashion Education or Style Transformation.
Style dilemmas are easily resolved by working with a Personal Stylist, whose goal is to help their clients augment their personal style, boost their confidence, and develop a strong fashion sense. It is crucial for a Personal Stylist to build trust, maintain professionalism, conduct consultations, and stay updated with industry trends.
Developing personalized styling plans tailored to each client’s unique needs and budgets respectively. Providing guidance and expertise in exploring new fashion avenues, merchandizing, discovering their distinctive fashion identity, and supporting their clients as they embark on their fashion exploration.
I have had the utmost pleasure of meeting and getting to know, Neha Bhandari, a remarkable Personal Stylist, based here in Luxembourg. With her company StylizedU established almost a decade ago, Neha has consistently achieved remarkable growth, captivating her clients and the community with her extensive knowledge and wealth of experience in the field.
Today, I celebrate Neha and her narrative that is related to artistic expression and style. A creative visionary, with an uplifting spirit and stimulating presence. Neha’s dynamic personality has left a lasting impression, shaping the fashion landscape for future generations.
Born in Kanpur-India, Neha did her schooling at a beautiful hill station in Nainital, in the north of the country. Her parents are both physicians. But Neha chose a different path, completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from LU India; then she obtained a Masters in Fashion Merchandising and Management from NIFT India (while in the process securing a gold medal).
“My first job was as a Buyer for women’s wear. Eight years later I moved to Arizona, USA as a trailing wife and mother of two children.”
Over the course of her two years stay in the US, Neha decided to study fashion styling.
“I was recognized for my expertise in the field of fashion and appointed as a faculty in the Fashion Merchandising and Design Department of MCC College in Arizona.”
Neha, what were the most significant challenges you faced after your move to Luxembourg?
“The language barrier, and the absence of fashion industry for me to find any relevant job was most challenging.”
Her resilience and tenacity drove her to proactively pursue new opportunities and connections. Neha began networking, engaging with startup professionals, stay-at-home individuals, entrepreneurs, and her local community.
Neha was curious to discover how individuals in similar circumstances, including trailing partners and highly educated, experienced professionals, were navigating this transitional phase of their lives, existing in a state of uncertainty.
“In some ways I found solace in the realization that I was not alone in this experience.”
“It was during a coffee morning with a group called “Mumpreneurs”, when I felt inspired listening to some of the women share their brave stories of their entrepreneurial journeys. I was motivated to take a plunge and it was that same day that the idea of STYLIZEDU was coined, a perfect culmination of my education, experiences, and interests, it all made sense.”
Who has been the biggest influencer/mentor in your life?
“An intelligent, kind woman who is also strong and practical, full of positive energy and the desire to help others. A good listener who hears me and offers guidance and feedback in return. My mother, who did her masters and received a gold medal even after having raised three kids. She reached the epitome of her success in her medical career by becoming the Direct General of Medical Science of the state.
My mother is a true inspiration in every sense of the word.”
What is your vision for personal styling?
“I would like to create awareness about personal styling and sustainability. Fashion industry is hugely responsible for an environmental issue and by sharing my expertise with my clients, I want to help them make better choices for themselves and the environment. Buying more will not make you more stylish, but buying consciously, rationally, and wearing aesthetically definitely will”.
Have you considered writing a book, your story on what to and what not to wear?
“I have not yet considered this, though I must confess that a few of my clients and friends have suggested this.”
How do you incorporate enrichment into your practice of Wellness and Philanthropy?
“I love gardening, it is my Zen place. I go for hikes, practice yoga, cardio workouts and try to eat a balanced diet. The joy of food lifts my spirit! I am a people person, interacting energizes me. I enjoy all social gatherings and commitments.
My husband and I support an orphanage and shelter – Dharohar Foundation, an education and development center that also provides lodging for street children in my hometown.”
How can we expand women’s links to each other on mentorship and networking?
“Sharing opportunities, collaboration, recommendations and advocating for women.”
What message or insight would you like to share with our readers on our platform?
“My work as a stylist is very rewarding and the testimonials speak for themselves. Change of geographical locations and cultures had forced me to reinvent myself over and over again. I learned to make space for myself in unknown geographies.
People have doubted the very essence and existence of my business, but this only made me more adamant to do better and bigger things.
Last month I was on the cover of a renowned magazine, Télécran. This encounter served as yet another testament to the impact of my work, as it enables individuals to regain their confidence and become the best version of themselves.
The values I hold onto from my past experiences are integrity, sustainability, and courage.
My greatest strengths are adaptability and attention to detail.”
Everyone is uniquely made, and it is important to approach life with an open mind, embracing new experiences and opportunities for growth. By being receptive to learning and exploring different paths, you can discover your own unique niche and carve out a fulfilling journey that aligns with your passions and strengths.
Neha has been a constant source of inspiration and empowerment within her community. Through her unwavering dedication, she has become an embodiment of strength resilience and compassion leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of those she has touched.
Her story is a testament to the incredible influence that individuals can have when they channel their passion into meaningful work, thus instilling a sense of hope that will continue to shape lives into the future.
